Well the first day of the Commodity Classic is in the books. Today I was part of a wonderful farmer round table sponsored by Successful Farming and John Deere. There was 13 other farmers along with top officials form both sponsors. A wide array of topics were discussed ranging from technology, policy, production and the famous question " why are you doing what you do". I would say that technology was the most popular topic discussed whether it be auto steer or social media. It was evident that technology plays a major part of everyone's operation and will continue to be more important in the future. Also, one of the things that I found to be interesting to be was the disappearance of the livestock industry in the Kansas and Nebraska areas. Some of the farmers from that area stated how a lot of the dairy and hog operations have folded up recently. This is a topic that we hear about a lot,but got to hear some of the stories first hand today.
Overall it was a very good meeting with lots and lots of topics discussed. It is both exciting and intriguing when talking about the future of agriculture. Tomorrow I plan on attending some of the open session seminars and going to the opening of the trade show. From what i hear it is really something to see.
